CHAL @ 50: Groundbreaking of the Multipurpose Building Marks a New Era of Sustainability
On 14th November 2025, the Christian Health Association of Liberia reached a defining moment in its 50-year history — the groundbreaking of a new multipurpose building at CHAL’s compound in Monrovia. Held under the auspices of the Bishop of the Episcopal Church of Liberia, the ceremony was more than a turning of soil. It was a declaration of intent: that CHAL, having served Liberia’s most vulnerable communities for half a century, is now investing in the infrastructure needed to sustain that mission for generations to come.
The multipurpose building is designed in three income-generating phases — shops for rent (estimated at USD 150,000), meeting and training facilities (USD 90,000), and small guest apartments (USD 150,000) — with a combined projected cost of USD 390,000. Together, these phases will give CHAL a reliable stream of revenue independent of external donor funding, allowing the organisation to cover core operational costs and reinvest in its member network. A fundraising campaign launched on the day drew contributions from member facilities, secretariat staff, and partner churches, with plans to engage traders and well-wishers in a broader drive.
The groundbreaking capped three days of 50th Anniversary celebrations that began with a thanksgiving service at St. Peters Lutheran Church and included a public health march through Monrovia’s streets attended by over 70 members in CHAL uniform, an Access to Healthcare workshop facilitated by Dr. Gisela Schneider, and a gala dinner honouring past and present staff and board members. For CHAL, this milestone is both a celebration of what faith and perseverance have built — and a courageous step toward what comes next.
